Owner-Operator Guide

Owner-Operators are single-person subcontractor companies in Tare. They may own one or multiple pieces of equipment, but they do not have employees and they are not dispatchers. They operate independently and complete all jobs assigned to them directly.

This guide explains how Owner-Operators use Tare.

Receiving Work (RFOs)

Owner-Operators receive work through RFOs (Request For Operators) sent by other companies.

As an Owner-Operator:

  • You receive a notification when an RFO is assigned
  • You can view job details, customer, PO, and any notes
  • You must accept the RFO before taking action

In Tare, an β€œoperator” is anyone assigned to an RFO.
As an Owner-Operator, you are always the operator for your company’s equipment.

Accepting or Declining an RFO

When you open an RFO, you can:

  • Accept the job
  • Decline the job

You must accept before you can:

  • Upload bills or ticket images
  • Complete the job

If you decline:

  • The dispatcher is notified
  • They must assign the job to a different operator

Owner-Operators cannot subcontract RFOs to anyone else.

Uploading Bills (Tickets)

After accepting an RFO, you can upload bills (ticket images) as proof of work.

You can:

  • Add multiple bill photos
  • Use your camera or photo library

You cannot:

  • Delete submitted bills
  • Edit submitted tickets

Only the root dispatcher (the company who created the RFO) can remove bills.

Equipment for Owner-Operators

Owner-Operators do not manage equipment in Tare.

They cannot:

  • Add equipment
  • Edit equipment
  • View equipment compliance
  • Track insurance or MVI

Even if an owner-operator owns equipment in real life, it is not tracked inside Tare.
Their role is focused solely on accepting work and submitting bills.

If you need to manage equipment or track compliance inside Tare, you must create a Dispatcher account instead.

Subcontractor Invitations

Businesses may invite you so they can send you RFOs.
